Senior Assessments
Senior assessments will run from Monday 6th till Tuesday 21st December (timetable attached). Mrs Wilson met with all S4/5/6 last Friday to discuss the assessments and answer any questions. Any pupils with assessment arrangements have been provided with an individual timetable. Please can parents/carers remind pupils to arrive at their assessment room 10 minutes before the start of the assessment.
Please note there is no study leave and pupils will attend normal classes for supported revision unless they have an assessment.
COVID Vaccinations
NHS staff will be in school on Monday 6th December from 12.00pm to vaccinate:
* 16 & 17 year olds that wish to get their second dose (only eligible if they received first COVID vaccine before the end of August)
* 12 – 15 year olds that wish to get their first dose (pupils must have a signed consent form to be eligible, spare forms available from Office)
Please note if a young person has had COVID they cannot have the vaccine unless 12 weeks have passed, so anyone who has had COVID since the beginning of September would not be eligible.
Due to Senior Assessments the vaccinations will take place in the Medical Room (next to Reprographics).
S3 Reports
S3 pupils were issued with their reports this week. If your young person was absent from school that day, their report may be in the School Office to be collected.
New School Transport Arrangements
As previously communicated, a new school transport network will come into effect from 10th January 2022.
The changes were made in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint created by school transport vehicles and to provide a more efficient home to school transport service. We are currently finalising the new bus passes and will shortly be sending them out to schools so that pupils receive them in time for the start of the new term in January 2022.
The application window for securing places on school transport from January 2022 onwards was open from Friday 9 July to Sunday 22 August 2021.
If you are a parent/carer of a child and your circumstances have changed since you applied or alternatively if you have moved home and are now entitled to transport and have not yet applied, please notify the school who will contact the transport team to make any necessary amendments.
In order to ensure that everyone receives their pass, we are asking any parents of entitled children who have applied for transport and have not yet already received confirmation that they have been accepted for transport, to contact the school. We will then check to ensure that a pass is issued.
COVID-19 Update – Bus Pupils
The school transport team has recently received feedback from school transport operators across the region that some pupils are turning up to travel on school transport without a face covering.
The current guidance from the Scottish Government states that young people aged 12 and over are required to wear face coverings on school transport unless exempt from doing so.
Parents should ensure that pupils turn up to travel on school transport with a face covering if they are required to wear one.
Face coverings should also be safely disposed of when used and not left lying on vehicles as it poses a safety risk to operators’ cleaning staff.
Celebration of Achievement
Due to Covid-19 we were unable to host our traditional Celebration of Achievement evening which is held annually to formally recognise and celebrate the huge variety of different successes that our young people have achieved over the previous year. As a school we are incredibly proud of all that our young people have and continue to achieve. Last week we presented the winners with their awards and had their photographs taken. The photographs and programme are on the website for you to view here:
Maths Pupils of the Month

KHS Parent Council – Update from Meeting
Please have a read at the Head Teachers update below.
We had a good meeting on Wednesday with invaluable contributions from parents and staff.
Here are the highlights:
1. Merit/demerits system
We had a good debate on this with input from parents and staff. If you have thoughts or your young person has experiences you want to share please email us. We will discuss again at our next meeting so would love feedback.
2. Parent/carer involvement in learning teams
There are five new learning teams of staff, young people and parents/carers :
Digital learning (what it sounds like)
Lifelong learning (careers and future pathways)
Positive learning (behaviour and interaction)
Recovery and resilience for learning (wellbeing and mental health)
Celebrating learning (telling our young people how awesome they all are!).
Would you like to have input into any of these? There will be NO MEETINGS! We are just looking for ideas/feedback/folk to be a sounding board to bounce thoughts off. Email the parent council or the school if you are interested.
3. Parents/carers evenings.
We discussed what was good and needed improving in the Senior phase consultation evenings which were held online last month. Any comments you haven’t already shared with the school let us know.
S1 – 16th May 2022
S2 – 8th February 2022
S3 – 8th March 2022
All online and details will follow from the school.
The parent council can always be contacted through the school, on our facebook page or by email – pckelsohighschool@scottishborders.npfs.org.uk
