    Return of New S5 and S6 – Session 2025–26

We are pleased to welcome back our new S5 and S6 pupils following the completion of the SQA exam diet. Young people have now transitioned into their next phase of learning and have begun their new timetables for session 2025–65.

We are looking forward to welcoming our young people on Monday 2nd June as they embark on their chosen Senior Phase courses. Over the coming weeks, there will be a strong focus on settling into new subjects, developing independent study skills, and setting clear goals for the year ahead.

Thank you to all staff, parents, and carers for your continued support during the exam period and throughout this next phase.

    New S6 Induction – Monday, Periods 1 & 2

We look forward to welcoming all members of our new S6 cohort to their S6 Induction Session on Monday during Periods 1 and 2.

This important session will take place in the Assembly Hall and will outline expectations, opportunities, and key responsibilities as they begin their final year at Kelso High School. They will also receive information on leadership roles, wider achievement options, and ways to positively contribute to school life during S6.

We ask them to register with their Register teacher prior to making their way promptly to the Assembly Hall.

We’re excited to begin this final chapter with them and to support them in making the most of their S6 year.

    S6 Leavers Evening

Our S6 Leavers’ Evening will take place on Tuesday 3rd June 2025, starting at 6.30pm.

Each leaver, as the main guest of the evening, is entitled to two seats for family members.

If you wish to reserve these places, please email kelsohs@scotborders.gov.uk by Monday 2nd June 2025.

New S3 iPad Refresh Tuesday 3rd June

On Tuesday 3rd June, all learners in S3 will be issued with new iPads.   To allow a ‘smooth’ refresh to take place, please ensure that your child brings their current iPad and charger with them to school on Tuesday – a ‘Refresh’ timetable detailing the times that learners should report to the Assembly Hall to receive their new iPads is attached.  Any S3 learner who is on the Modern Languages Trip to Paris will receive their new iPads when they return to school.

In order to upgrade their iPad learners must ensure that their old iPad is charged and running the latest software – this should be done at home as there will be no time available in school for this. A checklist for learners to help them prepare for this refresh is also attached.  A copy of this checklist is also available to learners in their year group Team.

Learners who use the Procreate App and/or the Sketches App and/or Book Creator App need to ensure that they back up their files before they upgrade their device. Instruction Sheets on how to do this are attached, have been uploaded to Year Group Teams and shared with all staff so they can remind classes of the need to upload work created using these apps to either iCloud or OneDrive.

Given that it has been a number of years since iPads were issued, a copy of the SBC iPad Agreement is also attached.

Any learners with any questions about the refresh should see either Mrs Townsend, Mr Connell or Mrs Changleng.

Kelso High School Hockey Awards Night – A Celebration of Success and Dedication

This week we celebrated another fantastic season of hockey at our annual Hockey Awards Night, recognising the achievements of all our players from S1 through to S6. It was inspiring to see so many young people being celebrated for their commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship.

We also acknowledged the vital support of parents, carers, coaches, staff and volunteers, without whom our hockey programme simply wouldn’t be possible. Special thanks go to Liv Ferguson, Miss Stevens, Miss Rout, Stuart Horsburgh and David Ferguson for their coaching efforts. Thank you also to John Watmore in our janitorial team and to Suzanne Cowe in the school office for her behind-the-scenes support.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our S6 leavers, who have been fantastic role models throughout their time on and off the pitch. We wish them well as they move on and we hope they carry the lessons and friendships from hockey with them into the future.

This year’s awards night also marked a moment of special recognition for David Ferguson, our Director of Hockey, who will be stepping down from his role. David has been a driving force behind Kelso Hockey since 2012, leading with positivity, integrity, and a genuine belief in every young person he’s coached. His leadership, sense of fun and unwavering commitment have helped shape not just our hockey teams but the wider school community. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given to KHS and wish him all the very best for the future.

Thank you to everyone who makes Kelso Hockey such a strong and valued part of school life.

    S3 Hirsel Trip

A huge thank you to RHET and the Hirsel Estate for providing our S3 learners with the most wonderful, hands-on experience yesterday – Thursday 29th May. From learning where our food comes from, to discovering the wide range of careers available in the rural sector, it was a day packed with practical, engaging activities that brought learning about the countryside to life.

Despite a slightly soggy start, the weather didn’t dampen our spirits one bit—our young people threw themselves into every activity with energy and enthusiasm and we couldn’t be prouder of them. Our new S3 cohort were an absolute credit to KHS, displaying respectful and polite behaviour and demonstrating our school values of Participation, Respect, Included, Determination and Excellence throughout the day.

A huge thank you to all school staff who supported the trip by leading groups and helping everything run smoothly – Mr Angus, Miss Roden, Mr Connell, Sam, Natasha, Lyndsay, Mrs Murray and Mr Bryan – and our grateful thanks to our amazing office team- Mrs Douglas, Miss Cowe and Mrs Neil for their hard work behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Thank you to everyone involved yesterday – it really was the most fantastic day! More photos from this visit can be found on our KHS Facebook page.
