Weekly Update 27/05/22

Holidays

School is closed to pupils and staff on Monday 30th May (apart from those sitting SQA exams). School is also closed on Friday 3rd June to all pupils and staff for the Queen’s Jubilee holiday.

S6 Leavers Evening

Our annual S6 Leavers Evening is taking place on Thursday 9th June. Information was sent by Groupcall to all S6 parents/carers earlier this week. Please email kelsohs@scotborders.gov.uk to confirm attendance/number of tickets required by Tuesday 31st May. Tickets are available for collection in the school office.

S6 Leavers

Can all S6 pupils yet to complete a leavers form and hand in iPad’s, please come to the canteen on Wednesday 1st June between 11am-12.30pm to do this. iPad’s must be charged, software updated, passcode reset and come with the original charger and cable. Any chargers not handed back must be paid for at a cost of £14.

Leaving School Grounds

As we are about to begin our new timetable on Monday 6th June we are asking that no young person leaves the school grounds during morning interval.  This due to a growing number of young people who return significantly late to class after morning interval.  It is only a 15 minute break and our canteen offer a range of food at this time therefore there is no need to leave the school grounds at this time.   All young people within S2-S6 may leave school grounds during our 50 minute lunch break.  Thank you for your support.

Maths Pupils of the Months

Congratulations to the following young people.  This month’s Maths Pupils of the Month awards recognise a willingness to grow from experience and to be able to evaluate things from a different perspective in Maths.  Well done to you all. #pridekhs

Inspiring Learning Festival

Wednesday and Thursday saw Springwood Park host the first Inspiring Learning Beyond Borders Festival.  A huge thank you to Sam Nowakowski (S1), Niamh Bennett (S2), Grace Morris (S2) and Dougal Coates (S5) who were absolutely fantastic ambassadors for the school and inspired all they spoke to with their enthusiasm and positivity in showcasing all the good practice that is happening here at KHS.

Thank You Zoe and Miss Riley!

Well done and thank you to Zoe Horsburgh (S2) and Miss Caitlin Riley from our Music Department who provided the musical entertainment at the Inspiring Learning Festival  dinner at Ednam House on Wednesday evening.  Their musical performance was greatly appreciated by the many guests from all over the United Kingdom and from Scottish Borders Council. #pridekhs

S1 Abundant Borders Project

All S1 learners spent Wednesday morning working with Abundant Borders, staff from the Southern Upland Partnership and Mrs Lothian, Miss Brown, Dr Bury, Mr Mathews, Mrs Cameron-Lyle, Mrs Poole and Mr Baxter to create their own design plans for the new community garden.  Here you can see some amazing designs on display from our S1 learners as part of their Ideas Become Things project. Thank you to all involved and a huge well done to S1 for their creative designs. #pridekhs
