Weekly Update 26/03/2021

Alternative Certification Model 2021 – SQA

Yesterday, we held year group assemblies to share key information regarding the implementation of the above model within Kelso High School.

Please find attached a letter that has been shared with all young people within S4-S6.

We are also offering a short online parent information session on Tuesday 30th March from 4.30pm – 5pm.  Please do not worry if unable to join at this time as this session will also be recorded and will be made available to all parent/carers of S4-S6. It will also be a useful point of reference for our young people. Joining details will be sent out on Monday via Groupcall.

SQA Correspondence from Scottish Borders Council

Please find attached a letter from SBC to all parent/carers of S4-S6.  This provides general information around the SQA process and compliments our Kelso High School letter.  There are plans to continue to send out regular updates throughout April, May and June.

Highcroft Co-op

A reminder that the previous ban on pupils entering the Co-op at Highcroft still remains in place. We have been contacted by the store as large groups of young people are trying to get in during break and lunchtime which is not allowed, especially during the current pandemic where numbers of customers in shops needs to be greatly reduced to keep everyone safe. Please remind your young person that they should not be going to the Co-op during school hours.

S1-S3 Movement Challenge

During February S1-S3 were challenged to get out and see how much distance they could cover in our movement challenge. They were challenged to cover as many miles as possible and record these miles to see who could travel the furthest. We had lots of entries and the total distance covered would take us from Kelso to beyond Bucharest in Romania!! No matter how far you travelled well done to everyone who entered the challenge and recorded their efforts!

The best scores by Year Group and House were as follows:

S1
Bowmont – Alfie Smith – 50 miles
Kale – Arran Gibb – 56.97 miles
Teviot – Caitlin Butler – 50.96 miles

S2
Bowmont – Summer Hush – 49.31 miles
Kale – Zoe Nairn – 87.26 miles
Teviot – Zoe Cowe – 83.6 miles

S3
Bowmont – Ben Burton 35.5 miles
Kale – Josh Mackellar – 134 miles
Teviot – Abi Picken – 53.9 miles

Some amazing distances posted especially given the weather we had in the middle of the challenge. Congratulations go to Josh Mackellar (S3) who is our winner with a distance of 134 miles covered!

Lockdown Recipe Book

Miss Armstrong is creating a recipe book which contains recipes for foods which pupils have been asked to make over the past periods of home learning as well as favourites that are made in the HE department. We have asked all staff to contribute a recipe and would love for all pupils and their families to contribute a recipe too. This would be a starter, main, dessert, sweet treat, cake, bread etc. and can be a recipe which has been enjoyed for years or something which you have discovered during lockdown.

All recipes or a photo of a recipe need to be sent to either Miss Armstrong (gw18armstrongevelyn1@glow.sch.uk) or Mrs Lawson (tracylawson@glow.sch.uk) by the end of term (1st April).

We would love to see as many recipes as possible so that everyone can enjoy making and creating the dishes that your family enjoy and who knows one day they may be cooked within the HE department.
