Higher Geography Excursion

Last Friday – 17th November – saw our Higher Geography class up bright and early to make their way to the glorious scenery of the Lake District. The aim of the excursion was to allow our learners to become more familiar with glacial features and processes and to provide them with first-hand experience of what they have being learning in class. The excellent weather and the stunning scenery of the Mosedale Valley in the Northern Fells contributed to the most amazing day for our learners. During their visit, the class considered how the valley was formed, how the land is used and why the Bowscale Tarn has a specific orientation. The fact that the Valley contains almost every glacial and post-glacial feature made it the perfect location for the trip. The day ended with a short detour to visit an esker at Caldbeck Common. A huge thank you to Mr Dalziel for his superb organisation, fantastic ‘guiding’ and photography skills. Well done to all involved in being a credit to KHS! #pridekhs

Hockey Update

This week our Hockey teams have participated in the Scottish Cup ties, and they have represented the school very well. Sadly, they lost to superior independent schools (Jordanhill and St Margaret’s) in the quarter-final stages.

However, they showed tremendous resilience to fight hard and the seniors almost pulled it back yesterday, before losing 2-1 – where their grit and desire not to let the team and school down closed the skills gap for much of the game.

The term matches finish on Saturday away to Hawick HS, and then the seniors will play in the South Indoor Cup at Peebles HS on Sat 2 Dec, and that will be us for the first half of the season. We will return with games mid-January, preparing for the South Schools tournaments running through February and March.

Seniors squad: Ailsa Ogilvie, Amy Robertson, Rachel Scott, Zoe Horsburgh, Ruby Laing (captain), Elsa Dalziel, Jenna Hosie, Ellie Burton, Katelyn Guthrie, Antonia Nicod Rogerson, Beth Laing, Madison Wemyss, Erin White, Robyn Ford, Zoe Nairn and Abi Picken (vice-captain).

Scottish Schools Senior Challenge Cup:

1st round – Lost 4-0 to Robert Gordon’s College (Aberdeen)
