‘Ready to Learn’
Last week we had a focus on ensuring all our young people had their charged iPads with them every day. Our registration teachers were checking each morning and we were encouraged that this improved through the week. Well done!
From Monday, we are continuing with the theme of ‘ready to learn’ and our focus will be on arriving to school on time. We have a growing number of young people who either arrive to school late or do not attend registration. Please can we ask for your support to ensure all our young people attend school on time.
If there are ongoing barriers then please contact the school.
School Uniform
From August we will be encouraging all our young people to wear our agreed school uniform on a daily basis. This consists of white shirt, school tie, black trousers/back jeans/skirt (no leggings) and a black jumper.
If you would like to purchase a school jumper then please use the link below or we also have a stock of uniform in the office for sale too. We have a sample of all sizes of jumpers within the school if you would like to pop in to have a look at.

S2 STEM
Our S2 Army STEM event on Tuesday and Wednesday was a resounding success. S2 students worked brilliantly with Army representatives as part of ‘Operation Disaster Relief’. Working as Army Medics, Engineers and Logisticians, they ‘deployed’ to a remote part of the world which had been hit by an earthquake. After learning how to build and operate their LEGO Mind-storm robot, they then undertook a series of engineering and logistical challenges to successfully complete their mission and deliver lifesaving humanitarian aid to local people. A huge thank you to Miss Roden for her hard work and efforts in organising this event and to our Army guests, without whom we would not have been able to run this fantastic learning experience.

S1 GeoBus
It was an absolutely fantastic day of fun as you learn for our S1 learners on Wednesday when the GeoBus rolled up to KHS. Developed and run by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of St Andrews, GeoBus is an educational outreach project supporting Earth science learning in schools. Our grateful thanks to: Mr Dalziel and our Social Sciences Faculty for organising; to Lynne from GeoBus for providing such an excellent hands-on experience; to all KHS staff who enthusiastically supported over the course of the day; and to our fantastic S1 learners who showcased KHS at its very best with their engagement, enthusiasm and amazing questions – Lynne was very impressed!

KHS PRIDE
S4 pupil Jake Dickson competes in the Northern Area Point to Point Pony Racing. At Hexham Race Course on Saturday, Jake was awarded the Hugh Robson Memorial Salver for Sportsmanship by his daughter Lesley Walby. Massive congratulations Jake! #PRIDEKHS

The Great KHS Tattie Project!
The great KHS Tattie project! Just a final photo from the Tattie Project we have recently been involved in. Here you can see Cuillin from S3 pictured delivering the last few bags of seed potatoes to Mrs Finn at his old primary school in Ednam. This donation of seed potatoes will allow the pupils there to get planting and to hopefully see some produce in the early Autumn. We also made a delivery to Broomlands PS, that will allow them to grow some of their own food in the school garden. Well done Cuillin and to all those who have been working hard on this project, including Mr Montgomery and Mrs Renton.

KHS Sailing Club
It was another glorious evening of kayaking at Whiteadder Reservoir near Duns on Wednesday evening for our KHS Sailing Club. As always our grateful thanks to Mr Borthwick in our Music Department for giving up so much time to support our young people to develop new skills and enjoy an exciting sport.

P7s Hockey
It’s time to welcome P7s into Kelso High School hockey!
Kelso HS is running introductory hockey sessions over the next three Tuesdays, for all P7s coming up to high school.
These sessions are for ALL girls and boys, but ESPECIALLY those who have never played hockey before and children with disabilities – everyone can be part of the KHS PRIDE hockey programme. Now is the time to give it a try as a great way to help with the step-up to high school, get to know new friends from other schools and sign up for the new season.
Sessions are on Tuesday 24th and 31st May, and 7th June, 4pm-5.30pm, at Kelso HS astro pitch. You don’t need any hockey kit or sticks, as these will be provided – just come in gym/PE kit. Only thing you need is a big smile and agreement to have fun!
Come and meet the coaches, other P7s and the high school hockey set-up, and, if you have fun, you can sign up for the new season and order the Kelso HS hockey strip.

Floors Castle Horse Trials
On behalf of the Organiser’s and Committee of Floors Castle International Horse Trials I would like to say a massive thank you to both the Equestrian Team and the Hockey Team for helping out over 4 days this weekend. Every single pupil was a credit to the school – they were polite, enthusiastic and a joy to have on site. It was also lovely to meet all the hockey mums who came to supervise!
Some of the riders managed to ride in the Championship qualifier classes too!
