Weekly Update 13/11/2020

KHS Remembrance Ceremony

We were able to hold our annual remembrance ceremony this year, although due to COVID we were only able to ask our S6 Head Team to be outside with the rest of the school remaining within their classrooms.  We had hoped to stream the event live however wi-fi was an issue.

Our S6 Head Team, led the moving ceremony and our young people were respectful throughout despite the technology difficulties.  This year we were also able to use Facebook Live to record the whole event and this is now available for families and friends of the school to view.

S3 Reports

Reports were issued to all S3 pupils on Wednesday. Please ask your young person to share these with you.

S1 Information Evening

Thank you to those who attended the S1 information evening last Wednesday evening. We have had many positive comments and thank you for these as we become more familiar with different methods of communication with our school community. As we intimated at the event a recording would be made using the Teams live event platform and then available to view afterwards. If there was anything you wanted to reacquaint yourself with from the event or if you were unable to attend, this recording will be available to view for the next 2 weeks by following the link below.

KHS Parent Council Update

Message from Chairperson Gemma Douglas:

The Parent Council meeting and subsequent Planning/Support group discussion held earlier this week were both very productive, thank you to everyone that took part. Following on from these meetings we now have the beginnings of two working groups:

1. Looking at funding

2. Looking at bullying, in all forms.

If you would like to have input, discuss or get involved with either of the above please contact us via email – KHSParentCouncil@scotborders.gov.uk.  This mailbox is overseen by School staff and emails forwarded over.  If you wish to speak to us in confidence please use this email and highlight as ‘Personal Email Request’ in the subject and text.  We will then email you back directly.  Emails are checked daily but please remember that we are parents with our own working and family lives so it may not be an immediate response.  For any urgent or serious issues please contact the school directly.

We welcome all parents and carers to our meetings, please be assured that you will not be asked to speak or take on a job, we are a platform with the core ambition of ensuring a Happy, Healthy and Effective education for our children.

We will be holding an informal, parent only, virtual coffee evening on 24th November, more details to follow. Please also look out for information from our working groups shortly.

Thank you for your continued support, Gemma Douglas Chair Person.
