S4/5/6  SQA  Alternative Certification Model – Provisional Results

Over the last few days, our teaching staff have been sharing with pupils how their provisional results are determined and the assessment evidence that is used to support awarding decisions. If pupils have any questions about the process they should speak with their teachers before the school issues provisional results on Monday 21 June 2021.

SQA Appeals Service

We have included below links to help pupils with their next steps and their options:

Support and resources – Q & A

Key features of the Appeals Service

Pupils will be able to register that they want to appeal their provisional result directly to SQA from Friday 25 June 2021.

There are three types of appeal:

  • an appeal against the academic judgement made
  • an appeal against an unresolved administrative error
  • an appeal on grounds of discrimination where:
  • there has been a breach of the Equality Act 2010 (which must have been either acknowledged by your school, college or training provider or established by a court or the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman)
    • your school, college or training provider failed to provide agreed Assessment Arrangements.

The outcomes of an evidence-based appeal could be that a learner’s grade could go up, go down, or stay the same.

Mrs Lothian and Mrs Wilson will hold an SQA ACM information session on Monday 14th June at 16.30. A link to join this meeting will be sent out via groupcall, as with other previous sessions this will be recorded so can be viewed at any time.

S1 pupils were sent a link via teams on their iPad, to make their choices for their S2 Options. This should be completed as soon as possible and by Monday the 14th at the latest.

Booster Immunisations

If your young person received a consent form for the teenage booster immunisations taking place on Tuesday 15th June, please ensure the signed forms are handed in to the School Office beforehand.

Please ensure they wear a short sleeve shirt or a t-shirt under their shirt as immunisations are given at the top of the arm and ensure they have something to eat (e.g. breakfast) before immunisation.

Rag Bag

A collection to uplift the bags is taking place on Thursday 17th June. We still have some bags you can get from the School Office and can hand back into the office prior to the collection date.

Kelso U-16 Football

Kelso travelled to Balerno High School on Sunday to take on Currie Star FC in the semi-final of the SERYFA DIV II League Cup. Kelso started quickly, Chad Patterson took advantage of a defensive mix up to round the keeper and square the ball to Kieran Burns who stroked it home to make it 1-0. Another defensive mistake saw Kieran Burns set up Conal McDonald to make it 2-0 after just 12 mins. The rest of the first half was a tight affair but a penalty for Currie Star made it 2-1 at the break. As the second half got underway Currie Star pushed for an equaliser but Kelso defended well and limited their chances. An unbelievable save by stand-in Kelso keeper Ewan Graham diving high and to his left to tip a top corner goal bound shot on to the bar proved the turning point. After that Kelso came back into the game controlling the final quarter of the match. Conal McDonald returned the favour for Kieran Burns setting him up for his second to make it 3-1 to Kelso. As Currie pushed to get a goal back, a quick break ended up with a strong shot from Chad Patterson being parried by the keeper. Kieran Burns was the first to react to complete his hat-trick and make the final score 4-1 to Kelso. Gala await Kelso in the final to be played on 27th June.
