We would like to thank you all for your support this term. We are incredibly proud of how our young people have adapted to the changing situation since January and, without a doubt, the highlight of this term has been welcoming them back to face-to-face learning.
We have greatly appreciated your willingness to work with us during the recent home learning period and your understanding as we have adapted to changing national guidance. We are sure that you are as delighted as we are that April 19th will see a return to full-time in school learning for all young people. Further details have been shared by Scottish Borders Council.
Key Dates for Next Term:
Mon 19th April Full School Return – Week A
Fri 30th April In-service Day
Mon 3rd May Holiday
Wed 23rd June Last day of Term
Finally, we would like to wish you all a relaxing break. Let’s hope the snow forecasts are wrong and we get some sunshine instead!
Memorial
Following the extremely sad news of the tragic death of Ellice Murray, senior pupils have created a memorial space within the school grounds which has allowed our young people to leave tributes and has given them a quiet space to reflect on events and remember Ellice. As a school we are incredibly proud of the way our young people have organised this and contributed to the memorial.
With the passing of time and following appropriate discussions a more permanent memorial to Ellice will be put in place.
Easter School at Kelso High School April 5th to 16th 2021
We are delighted to offer an Easter Revision programme for our senior students. Please see the attached programme for details – Please note there has been changes since it was originally emailed, therefore the copy below is the most up to date. I would strongly encourage our S4-6 to take up this offer. There is no need to book places in any of these sessions and these sessions have already been flagged up by teachers. Students wishing to attend the ‘in school’ sessions will need to make their own way to the school and bring refreshments for the day as the canteen will not be operating. They should also be reminded to follow all current Covid guidance including Lateral Flow Tests before and after coming into school.
I would also like to draw your attention to these National Learning Offers.
Senior Phase Help Desk supports learners through ‘live’ spotlight sessions, where subject specialist teachers will explore the range of resources available from across the National e-Learning Offer.
Learning Spaces for senior phase across a range of subjects at N5 and Higher are now available.
Assessment Window Timetable
Emails have been sent this week to all parents of S4-S6 pupils with the Assessment Window Timetable from 19th April onwards. A copy of this timetable can be downloaded below.
SQA Alternative Certification Information Event
We invited all our young people in S4-6 and their parents/carers to join us for a short session this week where we shared information from SQA about their alternative certification model. Please click on the link below to watch the event again. If you have any further questions then please email the school with SQA Question in the subject box. We will do our best to respond to your questions individually but we will use them to create a FAQ sheet which will be shared with you.
Fusion App – Cashless Catering
When pupils return to school following the Easter break, they will be able to pre-order and pay for items from catering using an app on their mobile device. This will help to reduce queues lunchtime. The Fusion app works alongside the existing cashless catering system used by school catering teams and is linked to ParentPay and the Young Scot card. The funds are added on to the pupil’s account in exactly the same way as before – i.e. using ParentPay (online) or the reval units (cash) in schools. ParentPay is the preferred option, to reduce the cash-handing by catering staff.
Attached is an information sheet for parents.
