Prelim Exams

Prelim Leave has now finished, young people should be in class on Monday and follow their normal timetable unless they are sitting an exam.  If pupils have missed break time, they may take 15 minutes before returning to their class.

#PRIDE - Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

Throughout the last few weeks our S3 pupils having been working extremely well in small groups.  They have been busy carrying our research, interviewing and working on their presentations about their Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) charities.  They have been sharing with staff and peers why they chose their particular charity and within class, a teacher panel selected the groups to go through to the Grand Final on the 31st January.  Well done and good luck to all involved next week…please watch this space next week when the winning charity will be shared.

S3 Battlefields Experience 2019

The third instalment for the above trip is now OVERDUE.  Please make payments via ParentPay or to the School Office.  Cheques should be made payable to Kelso High School.

Bike Maintenance Class

KHS currently runs a certificated class in bike maintenance on a Wednesday afternoon over a 14 week period.  So far pupils have dealt with the rudimentary details of frame parts, equipment and tools and have practiced the repair and maintenance of specific parts of a bicycle.  The course runs in conjunction with SBC Outdoor Education.

However, on Wednesday 16th January we were lucky enough to have frame designer and builder Liz Colebrook in school to introduce students to particular demands in bike design.  Liz produces frames and bikes under the brands Beaumont Bicycles and Flying Gate and has a long history in Physiotherapy, bicycle industry and design so is well placed to advise on bicycle design, particularly where "off the shelf" designs do not work.  She introduced the students to a number of designs where the clients disability demanded a fresh look at what really was suitable.  Whilst the students really did embrace this new angle (pardon the pun) on the course, Liz was extremely impressed with the students knowledge and interest.  Liz is based in Shropshire and we would like to thank her for taking time out of a busy schedule to visit KHS and pass on her expertise to our youngsters.  Photograph below.
