Parent Involvement & Engagement

We are currently looking at increasing family involvement and engagement with learning, as research suggests that engaged families result in better, more successful outcomes for young people. In order to help us improve this at KHS, we would like your help and to see what parents and carers’ views are on this matter. Please take our quick survey by following the link below.

Athletics Update

Some news from the Scottish Schools indoor Athletics Championships where Ben Lyall (S4) and Douglas Young (S6) were competing in the Over 16 60m sprint.  Well done to Ben who achieved 4th in his semi final and also achieved a PB through the day for the event clocking 7.54s.  Ben was racing against athletes much older than him, but more than held his own in this company and with another 2 years in the age group he has room for making “great strides”. Well done Ben!

Douglas had an interesting day with a couple of bad starts in his heat and semi final, yet he saved the best ‘til last, clocking 7.091 seconds to become Scottish Schools Champion!

This is a fantastic achievement for Douglas alongside his grass track success in the last 6 months.  Well done Douglas!  (Picture below)

U14 Football Update

Kelso travelled to a cold Portobello High School on Sunday morning to take on Lochend YFC in the semi-final of the Colin Campbell Sports Cup.  Despite having the best of a tight game the Lochend goalkeeper made some fine saves to keep the score to 0-0 at half-time.  The second half continued the same as the first with Kelso having the best of the game but being unable to create clear cut chances or the Lochend keeper continuing to thwart them in goal. At the other end the Lochend attacks were dealt with comfortably by the Kelso defence.  It wasn’t until the 57th minute that the deadlock was broken.  A strong run by Adam Patterson holding off two defenders was finished off with a low shot just inside the box that finally beat the Lochend goalie.  The second goal followed just two minutes later.  Another strong run by Adam Patterson resulted in his shot being saved, it broke to Aaron Ford who was able seal the win.  Kelso wait to see who of the four teams still left in the other side of the draw they will meet in the final but following their unbeaten league winning campaign and promotion last season, just reaching the league cup final in their first season in the second division is a great achievement.  Well done!!
