Weekly Update 02/11/18

Poetry Champions

KHS are officially Scottish Youth Poetry Slam Champions.  In a closely fought battle our team saw off former winners, Port Glasgow and Mearns to land first place.  Well done to all the KHS poets, musicians and their supports.  It was a fun day and a great result.  #PRIDEKHS

KHS Parent Council - Open House

There will be an open house for all parents on Tuesday 13th November from 6.30pm until 8.00pm.  This will give parents a platform to come in and find out more about the learning that is taking place within the school, opportunity for informal discussion, opportunities to volunteer within the school day or join the committee in a more relaxed environment.  As this date marks the one year anniversary of the opening of the school it will also be an opportunity to celebrate and showcase our recent achievements.

Equestrian Team - NSEA Championships

What amazing results for the Kelso High School riders at the 2018 Championships.  The team of Vicky Edgar, Alex Edgar, Katie Edgar and Katy McFadyen broke 3 NSEA records!!  #PRIDEKHS

They are the first team to win a championship four years in a row, the first team to win 7 championships in 4 years and also the first team to win 3 championships in one year!! Congratulations to all involved.

It was a very different competition at Keysoe (compared to Addington) with a walk of about 3 fields between the lorries and the stables - which caused a few problems unloading and loading up again!!  All 7 of our riders were outstanding with some amazing rounds ridden.  There was also fantastic team spirit (as always) and some great friendships made with other schools for both riders and parents.  There were about 850 horses at the competition over the 5 days.  It makes me incredibly proud that Kelso High School can send riders who not only compete with the best in the country but can actually win!!
As most of you will realize these results do not happen without a lot of incredible hard work and dedication.  The championships were great fun, but very long days!  Ponies were fed at 7.00am, first course walk 7.45am and 3 nights we weren’t finished jumping till 8.30pm - so we did have a few moments of exhaustion and tears (and that was just me….)

Looking forward the qualifiers for next year starting again in March and I’ve already spoken to a few riders who are keen to get involved – which is fantastic!
